Capital Community College
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU Distance Education), with its Distance Education program is The People's University in more than just one way. When it was established in 1985, it was the largest university in the world. It maintains that status even today. Named after the assassinated Prime Minister of India, IGNOU has its headquarter in the City of New Delhi, the capitol of India. Even though there are only under four hundred faculty members serving in IGNOU but it still has over three million students. The varsity boasts over five hundred thousand postgraduates in several of its programs.
The university was founded in 1985 with the intention of providing higher education to the masses at the large and that is exactly what the motto of the university is which states 'The People's University'. 10 % of the total student population in India is enrolled in one of the programs offered by IGNOU. It not only provides affordable education to the large chunk of disadvantaged citizens of India but also for anyone who would like to take advantage of the IGNOU Distance Education. The varsity is of immense importance for the whole sub-continent region as it also hosts Secretariats of the SAARC Consortium on Open and Distance Learning.
