Nursing Education

What is nursing?
The field of nursing forms the backbone of the healthcare industry, and is one of its largest and fastest growing branches. Nursing includes countless duties, the most common of which is looking after the needs of patients and assisting doctors in medical procedures, surgeries and other activities. Nurses also maintain patient records, file paperwork and perform a variety of other administrative duties at hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities around the country.

How can I obtain a nursing education?

A nursing education is designed to give you the skills and abilities required to provide quality care to people during their time of need, and plan, effectively manage and supervise the day to day activities in a hospital or other healthcare facility. In order to obtain a nursing education, you must at least have a high school diploma or GED. You can then enroll at a nursing college and take courses online or on-campus for a nursing degree or certification. A nursing education typically includes courses such as:

  • Physiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Pathology
  • Oncology
  • Health Assessment
  • Pre and Post Operative care

What are the future prospects?

The rapid growth of the population combined with the increasing number of the elderly has caused a huge rise in the demand for nursing and other healthcare professionals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the creation of one million new jobs in nursing by 2014. A nursing education is the best way to take advantage of this growth, and opens up loads of exciting opportunities at public and private hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, medical research facilities and a variety of other healthcare related organizations.
