Civil Engineering Colleges are the hardest to get into. Those who do make it to the colleges are few of the lucky ones who in the end land highly lucrative jobs. Civil Engineers are some of the highest paid engineers today and have always been. Civil engineering is the branch of engineering that is connected with constructing, designing and maintaining man-made structures. Civil engineering is one of the toughest fields of engineering where just being smart is not enough. Creativity is of utmost importance in just about any kind of engineering, and that is the case with civil engineering as well.
There are many specialized engineering colleges offering several engineering degrees. In order to become a civil engineer, you have to earn a Bachelor of Engineering degree which is either a three or four year program at any given college. The prerequisites differ from college to college but prior knowledge, good grades and a prior degree in the related subject is a common requirement for prospective engineering students. There are certain civil engineering colleges which offer postgraduate degrees in civil engineering. The Bachelor of Engineering degree does allow the engineer to get good jobs but if you want something really lucrative then a postgraduate degree in engineering is an option worth considering.
