Colonial Education

The history of colonialism spans over more than two thousand years. The student of colonial history may not be as biased as the affecters are; therefore it is always important to observe incidents and phenomena from a distance and without a prejudice. Colonial education is important for all of those who wish to have a solid knowledge based stance on it. Most of us remember British colonialism as the perfect example for it because it left deep marks on the culture of the host societies. Although the aims of colonialism are mostly vicious but it is not entirely true that its long run impacts are also negative. It is vital to understand the difference between settler and exploitation colonialism. History has witnessed that it was colonialism which brought the world culturally closer and general public benefited from lots of foreign products and services.
Colonial education formally introduces the students with the assimilation techniques intentionally or unintentionally used by the colonizers and its cultural impact on the colonized society. This educational aspect of the subject makes the students compare their own lifestyle in respect to the subject. The conclusion may be shocking for many of us but it is always important to face the reality than to stay ignorant. The study of the techniques which mentally strengthen the colonizer and allow them to control a larger part of the foreign society is more like a psychological venture. The main purpose of the colonial education is to form a society which has best traits from all culture while maintaining their regional contact with that society. Imagine a world where the majority of us follow the good, abandon the bad and give the deserved credit and worth to each other. Colonial education, if perceived and implemented as planned, can bring the world closer.
